DeviantArt USD to Point Calculator

Alpha version 1.6
THIS CALCULATOR USES UNITED STATES DOLLAR (USD) CURRENCY AND CONVERTS DOLLAR AMOUNT INTO DEVIANTART POINTS.

Created in Adobe Flash CS3 AS 2.0

Premium Content | Commission Widget Disclaimer

As of Jan 2013 DeviantArt introduced a way to generate earnings using either st.ash or uploading DA deviations as Premium Content. my.deviantart.com/art/Selling-… (This also applies to the Commission Widget ) This allows you to earn money by selling additional downloadable content or services. It can be withdrawn as real world currency or converted back to DA :points: It is important to know when uploading Premium content values you are only accounting for your "Gross Earnings" at the time of upload. This is the value before the 20% tax gets taken out. This calculator accounts for your "Net Earnings". Net (or Nett) refers to the amount left over after all tax deductions are made. If you are uploading Premium Content or offering Commissions please account for the 20% tax before you use this calculator.

100:points: = 1$ (is your Gross Earnings) only before the 20% tax gets taken out. After 80:points: = 1$ (is your Net Earnings).

Your Net Earnings is the actual value points are worth across DeviantArt. When you click on the "shops tab > Points Balance" it will show your net points total for your account.

Basically what you need to do is find out what you want to charge per transaction and add 20%. Mapped out here is the first $100 with the added 20% conversion. In other words if you want to make 5 dollars, you would actually charge 6.25 So on and so forth.

[ $what you want to make = $what you should charge ]

$1 = (Not listing, you should be charging more for your art )
$5 = $6.25
$10 = $12.50
$15 = $18.75
$20 = $25
$25 = $31.25
$30 = $37.50
$35 = $43.75
$40 = $50
$45 = $56.25
$50 = $62.50
$55 = $68.75
$60 = $75
$65 = $81.25
$70 = $87.50
$75 = $93.75
$80 = $100
$85 = $106.25
$90 = $112.5
$95 = $118.75
$100 = $125

Artist Comments

Part of the reason why I've strayed away from doing point commissions on DA is because I'm really not good at math. Figuring out the conversion rate between USD amount into DA points takes me about 2-5 minutes per calculation. (I have to usually triple check my math ) Which is why this calculator was born! My husband did the coding for it and I designed the interface and how it functions. There is one other Deviant art point converter fav.me/d30haz0 but I wasn't happy with the drop down feature as its function wasn't really necessary. Important things to note, we tested this calculator on many of the items in the DA store. All the calculations came out correctly with out the round up feature.

When using this calculator you need to use the decimal to indicate cents. Using no decimal will indicate just the dollar amount.

If you find any bugs or anything wonky please comment or send me a note. This flash file is intended to also help other artists! Sharing is caring, but please credit the original source.

( Update Aug 2019 ) Unfortunately I had to turn off comments to this deviation due to a spam, people begging for points, self advertising and a high velocity of aggressive and attacking comments. Attacking me or anyone on my pages will grant you a instant block.

What are points?

► b0r3d13 did an excellent job breaking down the basics of points! so check it out! fav.me/d4aq13e

Regarding different country's currency's

:earth: Its been suggested by multiple people that there should be different currency's represented by this calculator. We actually planed to do this but hit a pretty major road block. Since the currency exchange rate changes daily, we would have to pull the numbers daily as well for the equation to work. Right we're now not sure how to do this or even if it is possible. So for now I suggest using Oanda currency converter www.oanda.com/currency/convert… after using this point conversion calculator.

:thumb105504303:
Thank you for the DD and all the wonderful comments! Honestly it was a surprise. I just wanted to make an easy to use converter which has a simple to use interface with no buttons, drop down menus or fuss. I hope this will serve the Deviant Community well!

Version number and Bug Notes

:bug::bug:

v1.6 My previous versions had the entire thing working with numbers. When dealing with numbers, it makes adding a 0 behind a decimal somewhat difficult. I’m sure there are a thousand easier ways to do it but this was seems to be working with flying colors. Now it works using strings instead of numerical values. I converted the string into a number and run the math. Meanwhile, I have all these checks on the string to make sure the number fields look exactly how its intended to be used. I also changed the way it hunts for zeroes and decimals which makes it much more efficient.

In short re-wrote most of the engine for these fixes. Thanks to Tekarah, murisakii, oujinx, Dediggefedde, Elemental-Quest, and jujukittychick for the bug reports. If anything else seems wonky please let me know in the comments below.

v1.5 - Thanks for the DD! and with more eyes means more bugs to debunk!

Kodai-Az-Kite reported the over 9000 bug. To where if you typed in $112.52 it should = 9001 but instead gave you 9001.6. This was an easy fix, a rounding calculation was disabled in version 1.4 so we just re-enabled it.

cybertim reported the endless zero bug to where 00100 = 5120, while 100 = 8000. This was a bit more complex to fix. Not to say anyone would really need to put 000 before the number but if you did it broke it. So the fix was to convert the number into a string and put it back in. Hopefully this fixes the issue while not breaking anything else.

v1.4 - Allows for you to copy and paste the content. Didn't allow you too in older versions.

v1.3 - Fixed the crappy backspace to 0 issue. Now you can type in the field boxes without getting the hang up.

v1.2 - Made a edit if you want to know how much DA Points are worth in dollar amount you can type in the DA Point text field. Auto highlight in text field is now active. However this change is a little weird in that if you backspace the 0 the file can hang up a tad. If this happens click in the field to reactive it or ctrl+a to auto select.

v1.1 - Small bug, if you typed in a dollar amount with characters exceeding 13 spaces, DA point value showed decimal places. Quick fix this version limited how many characters you type in the USD field box. Bug reported by 10Sly10

I couldn't find a good official group picture to reference, so I came up with my own poses. It was fun.

My biggest goal was to do a somewhat more realistic rendition of Leela and keep her good-looking. I kept her nose big, like Matt Groening himself insisted on the character designers!

Other 3D programs

:bulletblue: Sketchup - Here is the link for those of you too lazy to google it :I sketchup.google.com/

:bulletblue: 3DS Max - Fully functional 3D program that can be used for modeling, animation, games, etc. It comes with Mental ray, a fairly good renderer. It's not specifically designed for making buildings, so it's harder to use than Sketchup in that regard, but it has awesome free plugins like the ones listed below. It is not free, but they offer free versions to students in participating schools (usually most colleges) which means as long as you have an e-mail account registered to your school, you can download it for free. usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/…

:bulletblue: Ghost Town - A free 3DS Max plugin that will procedurally generate cities within minutes. It is still in development so expect it to have bugs, but it still works well enough for me. www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scr…

:bulletblue: Building Generator - Another free 3DS MAX plugin. It automatically generates buildings within seconds. These buildings are more detailed and customizable than the ones in Ghost Town, but it only generates one building at a time. Also, it does not generate interior furnishing, only the exterior. www.tysonibele.com/Main/Buildi…

:bulletblue: Blender - 100% free fully functioning 3D program that can be used for character modeling, animation, games, etc. Best used with the plugin below www.blender.org/

:bulletblue: Suicidator city generator - a Blender plugin that comes in both free and pro version. It has ups and downs compared to Ghost Town so it's good to check out both and use them both to best fit your needs. cgchan.com/suicidator/

:bulletblue: City Engine - It's a crazy complicated 3D program that generates super realistic and customizable cities. However, it is also crazy expensive and will immediately crash if your computer doesn't have 16-24 gigs of RAM. Not really recommended unless you want to base your entire career on drawing cities www.esri.com/software/cityengi…

:bulletblue: CityScape - An amazing and easy to use program that used to come free with 3DS Max but stupid stuff happened and now the program doesn't exist at all; you can't even buy it. However, if you know your google well, and knows the dark corners of the internet, you can still find a student version of it. No link because it technically doesn't exist anymore (or does it? ಠ_ಠ )

:bulletblue: Kerkythea - A free external rendering program capable of photo-realistic results. I just found out about it and haven't used it yet but it sounds pretty cool on top of being free.

:bulletblue: V-ray - a render plugin for 3DS Max, Sketchup, and other 3D programs. It can render realistic and non-photo-realistic images (i.e. cartoon line art), it also has cool fisheye lens and other effects. It renders directly within the 3D program so you don't have to switch to another render program to use it. It is not free ): www.vray.com/

Other Drawing programs

:bulletred: Paint tool SAI - Love this program. Very easy to draw with compared to Photoshop, which is better for editing than drawing. It's also very cheap. Only around $50 when I bought it www.systemax.jp/en/sai/

:bulletred: Corel Painter - Good for mimicing traditional materials such as oil paint and water color. Ideal for adding that extra hand painted feel to 3D images. Not free and not cheap ): www.corel.com/corel/product/in…

:bulletred: Photoshop - Everyone has heard of it. Like the name, it's best at editing photos (or 3D images). It's also used by many artists to paint, but I prefer SAI. www.photoshop.com/

Too poor to buy any of these?

Most of us are not rich or just too young and mom said "NO"... well, I'm NOT encouraging this, but a standard rule is: If there is a program, a free cracked version of it exists somewhere on the internet. Usually google is enough to find them, if not, try 3D forums.

Good luck! :la:

The Roar of Our Stars

PRINT AVAILABLE:shop.alicexz.com

"Look at the sky. It's not dark and black and without character... the black is, in fact, deep blue. And over there: lighter blue, and blowing through the blues and blackness the winds swirling through the air and then shining, burning, bursting through: the stars! And you see how they roar their light. Everywhere we look, the complex magic of nature blazes before our eyes."

Part of my official series of Doctor Who poster-paintings based on the newer seasons. This one is of the Eleventh Doctor as played by Matt Smith. Originally commissioned by KLCx, thank you! Since been licensed and gone all around the world... Ref image from the 2010 Christmas Special.

Thank you all so much for your overwhelming support and comments on this painting!

I do this all the time...

I know the golden rule; the "it's only funny the first time" rule, but I couldn't help myself.. I've got many more of these, I could put them in my scraps, but I figure you've all had enough of these terrorized eggs.
I haven't.. *smirk*

COME SEE THIS BE MADE ON YOUTUBE HERE!! --> www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yc4kgW…

EDIT: Sorry for the water mark but this picture gets stolen and sold too often. I'm seriously fine with using this for pretty much ANYTHING!!!! BUT selling? Whyy??..... whhhhyyyyyyy do you thieves make me do this? XC

SAAAANNNSSS HELLA  AW WHAT WHAAATT!!!! FREAKING YESS!! SANS is hands down my most favorite character of Undertale lol (as with a LOT of people lol and there's a good reason for that!) HAhaha can you not tell by the picture I made of him? XD lol Free Undertale Sans Headbob Icon 1
So I've been wanting to draw a Full painting of Sans for a while, but the thing is I wanted to draw him using the Gaster blasters in his attacks and stuff, and I couldn't do that until me and a friend got to a the Sans fight in genocide mode. WELL the other day we finally reached Sans on Genocide mode and wow he wasn't kidding about having a bad time (but I'm kinda a masochist when it comes to hard games lol... i LOVE challenged in games cuz I grew up with the old original classics on the NES and SNES which are a lot harder than most new age games these days, so fighting Sans ironically was a big breath of fresh air, and I loved the challenge of it!) So being as I have been waiting to make the painting of him, for the longest time I've just been making a bunch of Sans doodles like in my notebooks during class before the semester ended and stuff hhahaha till fill that voice, because I've had this image in my head or a while. XD  and I'm SUPER happy with how it came out X>

Sans is amazing, and in every aspect. he's just a perfect character and I wish I could give him a hug because he needs it :C I love him so much <3

GAME ON

Time: 60+ hours.
Materials: TRADITIONAL. Copic multiliner and Copic sketch markers.
Size: 3 pieces of A4 paper taped together (approximately 11.5 x 22 inches), digitally connected using Photoshop CS3.

WALKTHROUGH:[link]

There are 18 Elebits total (the little red and blue creatures). Can you find them all?

If you guys were wondering about my sudden two-month hiatus, THIS WAS WHY. I've been working on and off (mostly off OTL;; ) on this piece for about 6 weeks in preparation for Anime Expo artist alley. Consider it a tribute to all the games and gamers out there!

The Nintendo DS is probably my favorite console along with my trusty old school PS2. DS ports many of my favorite series, so I figured I can cram them all into one picture since I'm too lazy to draw separate pictures of each of the O3O

It was very hard choosing which games to put in here. If I had more time and paper space, I'd stick quite a few more in there, but was big enough as it is. There is a total of 47 characters from 16 different games in this piece.

The sketching was the hardest and longest part, for sure. Coloring went relatively smooth except for those little elebits that's practically invading every corner of the picture. The smallest one is about 1/3 the size of my fingernail. I spent some time studying the art of each game because I didn't want to deviate TOO far from the original style. Each game has its own way of lining and coloring, and I tried to incorporate those aspects into my own style without having everything look like a huge mess. I ended up with a somewhat organized clutter.

Drawing and coloring the picture was only half battle. Connecting three separately scanned pictures took about five hours on its own. I became very acquainted with the clone tool because of this. Sadly, a lot of the colors and shades were lost through scanning. I had to go back and adjust individual colors to make it look like the original, but there are still some that can't be fixed (darn those reds and oranges) orz;;

Girl playing the DS in the front designed by me.
Game characters (c) whoever they belong to.

List of games included: Final Fantasy (Chocobo Tales, Tactics, Crystal Chronicles), Pokemon, Professor Layton, Super Mario, Mario Kart, World Ends With You, Kirby, Elebits, Phoenix Wright, Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Harvest Moon, Disgaea, Bomberman, Ninja Town.

Also, I'M SORRY IF I DIDN'T INCLUDE YOUR FAVORITE GAME. I COULDN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE AFTER FILLING THREE PIECES OF PAPER.

I love how surreal this photo came out even if it was taken somewhere along the corridors inside an old church, San Agustin Church. It is the oldest church here in our country, the Philippines.

Anyway, kidding about the title! But then again, it would be really cool if we could do a fan movie sometime soon. :-p
