Sexy Hypocrisy

Just pointing out the laughable hypocrisy here. Cuz, you know, the whole point of the Sorceress is to sell games based on her sex appeal alone (certainly not her “winning” personality, am I right?). Yet game devs are constantly being told by publishers and higher-ups in the industry “women don’t sell.” I mean, the double standard is hilariously obvious isn’t it? It’s not just me, right?

And no, those factoids are true. I got links!

Dragon Crown artist calling critic “gay” kotaku.com/the-real-problem-wi…
Remember Me Creative Director told women don’t sell in games. www.joystiq.com/2013/03/20/pub…

Keep in mind these are just two recent examples of problems in the industry. I just wanted to make the comparison here and point a finger and laugh at how stupid it all is.

PS: That quote about "you can't make a dude like the player kiss a dude in the game, that's going to feel awkward" wasn't literally talking about 2 guys kissing, it was referring to you (assumed to be a guy cuz, why not?) as the player playing as a female character kissing a dude in the game and was meant to be a reason why having a woman lead with a real social life and interest is "wrong." I thought that was pretty clear since it was for the "Remember Me" section of the comic but I guess it wasn't too clear and I just wanted to clarify it here. Ok? Cool!

PPS: I really did feel bad about drawing that boobs and butt pose. I'm no stranger to exaggerated anatomy and my grasp of anatomy itself isn't exactly astounding, but I just can't wrap my head around that pose. It physically hurts to draw someone (man or woman) in such an absurd way to me. Ouch... the poor woman...

PPPS: This comic has nothing to do with the amount of sales or ratings for each respective game. If one game has a higher metacritic rating or didn't sell as well as the other, this comic is not about comparing those aspects so please don't bring that up. This is not a VS for how well the games sold. The game's quality doesn't have anything to do with the fact that these things happened in the video game industry.

PPPPS: Wow, do I really need to say this? This comic is not a critique of Vanillaware's work or even saying it's bad in any way. It's pointing out how gamers defend artistic absurd designs like the Sorceress while also saying things like "the video game industry is made by men, for men, with designs men want to see and anything else is pointless to debate" which is backed up by the publisher's narrow sighted comment and by how many gamers here don't seem to understand that the gaming industry is now 45% female. Look through these comments and you'll see that gamers DO say these things so the use of the word hypocritical is accurate since gamers say BOTH these things in defense of any talk about sexism in gaming. The comment from the publisher was just to drive the point home that this mentality is so pervasive it filters into actual game production and is not exclusive to just the people who play video games.

It is not, and never was, an attempt to criticize vanillaware's design choices. They were simply a good target since their designs are so over the top and extreme, and because of the immature controversy that surrounded the artist when he was criticized (however unfairly you might see it, that is still something that did happen even if it got resolved in the end due to a misunderstanding).

Come on guys, I don't have to write this all out in breathless detail do I? I mean, use your cognitive faculties and try not to leap to the conclusion that I am somehow putting my feeble art "above" the brilliant work Vanillaware continuously puts out.

PPPPPS: And to those complaining that I took out the skull head that's propping up her boobs in the first panel, go rewatch footage of the game. Having the breasts point in different directions is an accurate enough representation of her sentient boobs that move around independently of each other.
