INFO ABOUT THE ANIMAL:
Name: Bat-eared fox / Big-eared dog (Otocyon megalotis)
Location: three separated African locations: Somalia, central Africa and South Africa
Size: 40cm high, 60 cm long body, 35 cm long tail weight: 5 Kg
Diet: insects, honey, birds and eggs, scorpions, fruit
Conservation status: Least Concern
Interesting facts: Bat-eared foxes are quite unusual canines: 80% of their food consists of insects. There are also doubts, if bat-eared fox is really a right fox or not. Some research says that they are close to genus Vulpes | after Giant Armadillo and cetaceans (dolphins), Bat-eared foxes are mammals with highest amount of teeth – they have amazing 52 teeth! | they live in burrows – mated pair and their youngs | Bat-eared foxes live in monogamous pairs. After two months, female gives birth to 3-5 puppies and both parents take care of them | Bat-eared foxes are mostly nocturnal | people hunt bat-eared foxes for their wonderful fur and for meat.
